Who Is Zonta

“Zonta” is derived from Lakhota (Teton Dakota), a language of the Native-American Sioux peoples, a word meaning honest and trustworthy. It was adopted in 1919 to symbolize the combined qualities of honesty and trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and world understanding.

Our mission

Zonta is a worldwide nonpartisan and nonsectarian membership organizationZonta International is a leading global organization of individuals working together to build a better world for women and girls.  We are non-partisan, and non-sectarian.  We do not affiliate with any political party or religion.

Our vision

Zonta International envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential.

In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men.

In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.

Structure and leadership

For administrative purposes, Zonta International is divided into 32 districts worldwide. Districts establish areas within their districts to implement administrative functions. Each area is comprised of clubs that facilitate the mission of Zonta at the local level, tailored to the needs of their communities, while also functioning as a integrated component of the entire Zonta hierarchy.
